The room I stayed in was compact — I mean, this is Shanghai, so don’t expect sprawling spaces — but everything worked properly, which is more than I can say for some pricier hotels I’ve tried here. The bed was actually comfortable, and they’ve got decent Wi-Fi throughout the building. The staff speaks enough English to help you out, though having a translation app handy never hurts. What really impressed me was how clean everything was, from the lobby to the bathrooms — you know that’s not always a given at this price point.

Getting Around

The metro situation here is pretty solid — Changshu Road station is about a seven-minute walk, which connects you to Line 1 and Line 7. That means you can get to People’s Square in maybe 15 minutes, or hop over to Jing’an Temple area without any transfers. Taxis are easy to catch on the main road, and honestly, most of the cool stuff in the former French Concession is walkable from here. I spent most evenings just wandering around the neighborhood, discovering little galleries and vintage shops I never would have found otherwise.
