Mia Hotel – Shanghai Xuhui Jiaotong University Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Mia Hotel – Shanghai Xuhui Jiaotong University, you immediately get that feeling of stepping into something thoughtfully designed. The lobby has this clean, modern aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard — it’s polished without being intimidating. I mean, you can tell this is a four-star property just from the attention to detail in the finishes and the way the staff greets you. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole place that sets the tone for your stay. The sophisticated design elements and carefully curated artwork create an atmosphere that feels both contemporary and welcoming.
The Xuhui Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re right in the heart of Shanghai‘s Xuhui district, which honestly feels like the sweet spot between accessibility and authenticity. Being near Jiaotong University means the area has this vibrant energy without the tourist circus you get in some parts of the city. You can actually walk to decent local spots for dinner, and the metro connections are solid (couples seem to really appreciate this setup, which makes total sense). The parking situation is handled well too, which — let’s be honest — is a huge relief in Shanghai. The neighborhood offers an authentic glimpse into local Shanghai life while maintaining excellent connectivity to major attractions.
Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d want after a long day exploring the city. Clean lines, comfortable bed, and everything actually works properly — you know how sometimes hotel rooms look great but the basics are off? Not here. The bathrooms are well-designed with good water pressure, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The windows offer decent views of the neighborhood, giving you a real sense of being in a lived-in part of Shanghai rather than some sterile hotel district. Thoughtful amenities and quality linens enhance the overall comfort level significantly.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here leans into Asian options, which I actually prefer when I’m traveling in China — there’s something satisfying about starting your day with congee and local flavors rather than trying to recreate a Western breakfast that never quite hits right. The selection covers the basics well, and the quality is consistent. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’ll definitely fuel you up for whatever you’ve got planned for the day. The restaurant area maintains a pleasant atmosphere with efficient service throughout the morning hours.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about this place is how it balances being a proper hotel with feeling connected to the actual city. You’re not stuck in some isolated bubble — you can walk out and immediately feel like you’re experiencing real Shanghai life. The staff seems to genuinely care about making sure things run smoothly, and the whole operation feels well-managed without being overly formal. For the price point and location, it delivers exactly what you’re hoping for without any unpleasant surprises. This apartment-style kitchen setup in select suites provides added convenience for extended stays, making it ideal for both business and leisure travelers.

Annamarie from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (9/10)
All the basics wee provided to a high standard – comfortable bed, good shower, Japanese toilet, curtains that worked to keep the room dark in the early morning, quiet room, spotlessly clean, helpful staff
What could be improved: All was good.Christopher from United Kingdom – 3 May 2025 (9/10)
What could be improved: Breakfast restaurant was under refurbishment but staff were excellent in trying to help with early room service options.
Piero from Italy – 25 April 2025 (9/10)
Despite being located over a busy road, the room was silent and very comfortable.
The personnel proved friendly and very helpful, communication in english was easy.
We especially appreciated the hint for an excellent dumpling vendor very close down the road.Teresa from Hong Kong – 12 April 2025 (9/10)
Mia Hotel is incredibly good value for money. The aesthetic is cool and modern, the room was perfectly clean, the bed was nice and comfy, and the deluxe suite is perfect for someone who is doing a working holiday. The desk is spacious and the sofa and chair are comfortable yet solid, like you could chill on them for hours. I was especially surprised and impressed by the fact that the room had a Dyson hairdryer! The housekeeper who took care of my room was warm and attentive. The deluxe suite has two balconies. It was great to be able to step outside and taken in some spring air.
What could be improved: The location is pretty great but it is a couple blocks away from the more happening Fahuazhen and Panyu Lu area. The street is a bit exposed to sunlight unlike neighborhood blocks to the north. But this is a minor complaint given how fantastic the hotel itself is.Tanja from Austria – 4 April 2025 (9/10)
Great service!
Jonas from Malta – 26 March 2025 (9/10)

Viktoria from Germany – 3 February 2025 (9/10)
Took a chance and selected this hotel due to its pictures and value for money. We were pleasantly surprised, it was new and comfortable and the room had everything we needed.
What could be improved: Gym is a bit small, but at least it has one.Aaliyah from Singapore – 15 January 2025 (9/10)
The check-in and check-out process was seamless. I loved how spacious and clean the room was.
Ignatius from Australia – 15 January 2025 (8/10)
The Hotel and staffs are very nice and accommodating, though they have minimum english skills, but the using apps to help communicate. Li, one of the attendant help me in booking the business taxi for the next day , taxi is big enough and super comfy to accommodate 4 people with 6 large suitcases (imagine that 😁). there are many restaurants and groceries nearby the hotel, there is a walkable shopping centre too
What could be improved: No parking infront of the Hotel, some taxi driver may get confused; Glass toilet and shower (No privacy), should have at least a curtain if privacy required, bedroom located at second floor (not good if you have knee issues or frequent go to bathroom at night)
