First Impressions

Walking into JW Marriott Shanghai at Tomorrow Square feels like stepping into the city’s beating heart — literally. This five-star tower sits right on Nanjing West Road, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The lobby has that polished luxury feel you’d expect from Marriott’s premium brand, but what really struck me was how the staff seemed to anticipate everything. I mean, they had my room ready early without me even asking, which after a long flight from the States was exactly what I needed.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s great about staying here? Everything you want to see is basically walkable. People’s Square is right there, the Shanghai Museum is a five-minute stroll, and you’re surrounded by some of the city’s best shopping. The couples rating this place 9.5 for location makes total sense — there’s something romantic about being able to walk hand-in-hand down Nanjing Road at night when all the neon lights up. Plus, the metro connections are incredible, so getting to the Bund or French Concession is actually easier from here than from hotels that claim to be “centrally located.”

The Room Experience

The rooms live up to the luxury billing, though what impressed me most wasn’t the marble bathroom or city views (both excellent, by the way). It was honestly the bed — and I’m someone who usually struggles to sleep in hotels. The rating for comfortable beds isn’t just marketing speak; these mattresses are seriously well thought out. The rooms are spacious by Shanghai standards, with floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel like you’re floating above the city. There’s also plenty of workspace if you’re here on business, which let’s face it, many guests are.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet here strikes that perfect balance between international options and local flavors. Sure, you’ll find your standard American breakfast items, but they also do a proper congee station and fresh dim sum that’s actually worth getting up early for. I watched business travelers grabbing quick Western options while families took their time exploring the Chinese selections — it works for everyone. The coffee is strong enough to wake you up but smooth enough that you won’t need three cups to function, which is more than I can say for some luxury hotels I’ve stayed at.

  What could be improved: The difference between deluxe room and executive room is that executive rooms are on the higher floor. However, the deluxe rooms start from 39th floor which is already very high. So there is no need to pay more for executive room.

  Superior quality, luxurious hotel in a great location. The breakfast buffet is simply outstanding! The room was very clean and comfortable, huge bed and a stunning view. All the staff are super friendly and helpful.

  The executive lounge was next level (literally), the facilities were great and the staff were brilliant. We had a corner room and would highly recommend it as the view is amazing! We booked a king corner, with executive lounge access. The lounge paid for itself as the meal in the evening had so much to it, as did the breakfast. Plus cocktails and drinks in the evening – all included. A great location as well for metro and taxis.
