Hyatt Place Shanghai New Hongqiao Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hyatt Place Shanghai New Hongqiao, you immediately get that feeling of stepping into something well-thought-out. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that’s distinctly Hyatt — you know what I mean, that polished but not stuffy atmosphere they do so well. What struck me right away was how the four-star property manages to feel upscale without being intimidating. The staff greeted me in both Mandarin and English, which honestly made the check-in process smoother than I expected for someone with limited Chinese.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about staying in Qingpu District — it’s not downtown Shanghai, but that’s actually part of its charm. The hotel sits on Huqingping Highway, which might sound industrial, but the area is surprisingly green and spacious compared to the cramped quarters you’ll find in the city center. You’re close to Hongqiao Airport (which is incredibly handy if you’re flying in or out), and there’s decent metro connectivity if you want to venture into the heart of Shanghai. I found that couples really seem to appreciate the quieter setting — it’s got that romantic, away-from-it-all feel while still being accessible.
The Room Experience
The rooms here follow Hyatt Place’s signature layout, and I have to say, they’ve nailed the balance between comfort and functionality. The bed was genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable, but the kind where you actually sleep well. What I loved was the separate living area with a sleeper sofa, which gives you space to spread out your stuff (or just lounge around without messing up the bed). The bathroom was modern and well-lit, though nothing groundbreaking. Free Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout my stay, which you can’t always count on.
Breakfast & Practical Perks
The buffet breakfast deserves a mention because it’s actually quite good — they’ve got a nice mix of Western and Chinese options that goes beyond the usual hotel fare. I mean, you’re not going to mistake it for a high-end restaurant, but it’s substantial and fresh, which is what you want to fuel up for a day of exploring Shanghai. One thing that really sets this place apart is the free parking — if you’re planning to rent a car or have business meetings around the area, this is a huge advantage. Most Shanghai hotels charge pretty steep parking fees, so this felt like a genuine perk.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Hyatt Place Shanghai New Hongqiao work is that it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. It’s reliable, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed for both business travelers and couples looking for a peaceful base. The location might not scream “tourist hotspot,” but that’s precisely why it works — you get better value, more space, and a chance to see a different side of Shanghai. Plus, with that 7.4 rating, it’s clear that guests appreciate the consistent quality and genuine hospitality you find here.

The breakfast is a combination of western & chinese food and we like it. The room is also big and very convenient for us. The staff is very accomodating even there is some conflict or our reservation dont reflect in their system, they accomodate us. They even provided an extra pillow free of charge.
What could be improved: We are not aware that we need to wear swimming cap or even in the booking.com it was not notified, so we need to buy a 30rmb each (total 90rmb) for the cap. Hope in future you have staffs that can understand or speak english as we are foreigners. Other than that, the staff are very accomodating even they got problem and cannot view immediately the booking.com reservation.
