Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Nanpu by IHG Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Nanpu by IHG, you immediately get that reassuring feeling of a well-run four-star property. The lobby strikes the right balance — polished enough to feel upscale without being intimidating, and the staff genuinely seem to know what they’re doing. I mean, it’s an IHG property, so you know the standards are there, but this particular location has that extra attention to detail that makes you think “okay, I made the right choice here.”
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about Pudong — it’s not just about being on the “business side” of Shanghai anymore. The Nanpu area actually gives you this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to the financial district but not drowning in corporate hotels and overpriced everything. Couples especially seem to get this location (they rate it 8.3, which honestly makes sense when you see how easy it is to get around). You’ve got the Huangpu River nearby, and getting to both Lujiazui and the Bund is straightforward without the chaos of staying right in the thick of it.
The Room Experience
The rooms deliver exactly what you’d expect from a solid four-star Holiday Inn, but with those little touches that show they understand Shanghai travelers. The beds are actually comfortable — not just “hotel comfortable” — and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which you know can be hit or miss in some Shanghai properties. What I really appreciated was the workspace setup; it’s clear they designed these rooms for people who might need to handle some business calls or emails, but it doesn’t feel sterile or overly corporate.
Breakfast & Practical Matters
The buffet breakfast is honestly better than it needs to be. You get your international options alongside some decent local choices, and the coffee is actually drinkable (which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given). They’ve got parking available too, which is genuinely useful if you’re dealing with Shanghai traffic or have clients picking you up. These practical details might not sound exciting, but when you’re navigating a city like Shanghai, having these basics sorted makes everything else so much easier.
Why Guests Love It
Recent guests keep rating the location at 8.4, and after staying here, I get why. It’s that rare combination of being well-positioned without the premium prices of the super central locations. The service feels personal rather than just efficient — staff remember your preferences, and there’s this sense that they’re actually trying to make your Shanghai experience better, not just checking boxes. For the price point and the IHG reliability, it’s the kind of place where you can focus on why you came to Shanghai instead of worrying about whether your hotel is going to deliver.

The hotel is clean and rooms spacious. I was charged £10 more than the Booking.com price. It’s hard to argue when you have no other hotel to go to so this was a little annoying. But the hotel was still good value. The room was comfortable and the staff very polite and helpful . It’s convenient for Longyang Rd Subway and the Maglev if you have an early flight (8min taxi) and for the fake market at Science Technology Subway (6min taxi). I would choose it for a single night stay. It’s not very convenient for central Shanghai. Stay near Jing’an for that.

The atmosphere of the lobby is good. Easy check in and out. Check in takes less than 5 minutes. The room is comfortable. Old design but good.
What could be improved: Ahh I was there for only a few hours because there's a mistake in my flight booking. I was supposed to fly the evening the next day but my staff bought my flight at 3 am so on 12 I have to check out. Was there for the microwave as I'm a muslim so I can heat my food, It's so hard to find halal restaurant in Shanghai. It exists but the location is far away. But the room doesn't have a microwave. The water heater is dirty, so I had to clean it out. The furniture is squeaky, please find some WD40.Lai from Malaysia – 29 February 2024 (8/10)

I recommend this hotel to business travelers in Shanghai who have meetings or events in Lujiazui or Pudong in general. It is four stops away from Lujiazui, and the train station is about 10 minutes walk. The hotel itself does not have many facilities but the rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. They also provide a bathtub room upon request. Finally, in my case, I left behind some valuables that I was not able to retrieve, so they kindly disposed of the valuables for me upon receiving my request. For the price and location, and service, I have no complaints.
