The Shàng by Artyzen Qiantan Shanghai Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Shàng by Artyzen Qiantan Shanghai, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical business hotel. The lobby has this sleek, contemporary vibe that feels distinctly Shanghai — modern but with subtle nods to local design elements. I mean, you’re in Pudong’s Qiantan area, which honestly feels like stepping into Shanghai’s future, and this four-star property fits right into that narrative. The staff greets you with genuine warmth, not that rehearsed hotel politeness you sometimes get.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about the Qiantan district — it’s where Shanghai locals actually want to live now, away from the tourist crowds but still incredibly well-connected. You’re on West Yangsi Road, which might not mean much until you realize you’re minutes from some of the city’s best riverside parks and the emerging cultural scene. The Metro connections are solid, so getting to the Bund or Xintiandi is straightforward, but you’ll actually enjoy staying in this area. There’s something refreshing about being in a neighborhood that feels authentically Shanghai rather than tourist-focused.
The Rooms
The rooms at The Shàng strike that perfect balance between comfort and style without trying too hard. Floor-to-ceiling windows give you proper views of the city — and honestly, watching Shanghai wake up from your room is pretty special. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have that spa-like quality with rainfall showers that actually work well. You know what impressed me most? The attention to lighting — they’ve got it figured out so you can actually relax in the evening without harsh overhead lights.
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant scene here surprised me in the best way. Instead of generic international fare, they’ve embraced both local Shanghai flavors and contemporary Asian cuisine that actually tastes authentic. Breakfast has the usual suspects but also includes some local options that are worth trying — the congee is particularly good. The fitness center is well-equipped without being overwhelming, and there’s a pool that’s perfect for unwinding after exploring the city. What I appreciated was how everything felt thoughtfully designed rather than just checking boxes.
Why Guests Love It
Couples consistently rave about this place, and I get why — there’s an intimate, sophisticated atmosphere that makes it feel special without being stuffy. The service strikes that sweet spot where staff are attentive but not hovering, and they genuinely seem to know the area well when you ask for recommendations. Plus, you’re getting excellent value for a four-star experience in Shanghai. The combination of the emerging neighborhood, thoughtful design, and that high guest rating of 8.8 makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something rather than just booked another hotel.

Reviews of The Shàng by Artyzen Qiantan Shanghai
Nomun-erdene from Mongolia – 13 November 2024 (9/10)
Great value for money! New hotel so everything felt super new and clean.
What could be improved: Rooms are a bit smallCong from United States – 9 June 2024 (3/10)
What could be improved: Terrible front desk; very rude. The room is very small based on what I paid. I paid for breakfast for a double bed room but they only provided one breakfast, which is ridiculous. The breakfast itself is also very poor. I regretted paying for that.
Yuki from Japan – 10 March 2024 (5/10)
Its proximity to the New Bund area
What could be improved: I stayed at the hotel from Feb 24-25. It's been over two weeks and I have not gotten my deposit back, nor have I gotten any responses or any type of correspondence regarding my deposit.Shane from China – 18 February 2024 (9/10)
Great location, amazing value for money, fabulous fresh design and spotlessly clean. Staff are really welcoming and accommodating also.
What could be improved: Very little. Breakfast range could have more western options I suppose.David from United Kingdom – 2 January 2024 (8/10)
Nice place. Good if you need to be in the area for a conference. Breakfast was OK but nothing to write home about. Staff were friendly.
What could be improved: Wifi was slow and didn't work everywhere.Ng from Singapore – 15 December 2023 (8/10)

In great condition and despite having small rooms has all amenities you need. Great value for money if you are mainly spending the night.

Hotel location is good. within walking distance to metro line.
