Walking into Holiday Inn Shanghai Hongqiao Central by IHG, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical business hotel — though it definitely caters to that crowd. The lobby has this polished, contemporary feel without being stuffy, and honestly, the staff seem genuinely pleased to see you rather than just going through the motions. I mean, you can tell when a place has its act together, and this four-star property clearly does.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about the Zunyi Road location — you’re in Shanghai‘s Changning District, which puts you right in the sweet spot between the business hub and residential neighborhoods. The Hongqiao area isn’t as flashy as the Bund, but that’s actually refreshing. You’ve got the subway nearby, and getting to Hongqiao Airport is ridiculously easy (about 15 minutes by taxi). Plus, there’s this great mix of local eateries and international chains within walking distance, so you’re not stuck eating hotel food every night.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was what I’d call “thoughtfully designed” — everything you need without unnecessary clutter. The bed was genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the work desk actually had enough space to spread out your laptop and papers. What really impressed me was the bathroom — spacious shower, good water pressure, and those little touches like decent toiletries that show they care about details. The soundproofing is solid too, which matters when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag.

Breakfast & Dining

Now, the breakfast buffet here is something else — they’ve got this incredible spread that covers pretty much every dietary need you can think of. Continental options, full English breakfast, Asian dishes, and they actually do proper vegetarian, vegan, and even kosher selections. I watched them prepare fresh items throughout the morning, so it’s not just sitting under heat lamps. The restaurant area gets busy around 8 AM with business travelers, but there’s always space, and the coffee is surprisingly good for a hotel.

Why Guests Love It

You know what really sets this place apart? The repeat guests — and there are loads of them. I chatted with a few regulars who’ve been coming here for years, and they all mentioned the same things: reliable service, that prime location, and the fact that it just works without drama. The private parking is a huge plus if you’re driving (not something you find everywhere in Shanghai), and couples seem particularly fond of the area — apparently it scored 8.9 for romantic getaways, which makes sense given how walkable and vibrant the neighborhood is. It’s one of those hotels that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well.

  The hotel is in a cool area, close to restaurants and a wonderful mall. The hotel staff was very accommodating and upgraded us in a beautiful room. They helped with the luggage. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was great.
