CitiGO Hotel Shanghai Jing’an Temple Overview

First Impressions

Walking into CitiGO Hotel Shanghai Jing’an Temple, you immediately get that modern business hotel vibe — clean lines, efficient design, and staff who actually seem to know what they’re doing. It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try to be flashy but gets the fundamentals right. The lobby feels fresh and contemporary, though honestly, you’re not coming here for Instagram-worthy interiors — you’re here because the location is absolutely spot-on.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about staying near Jing’an Temple in Shanghai — you’re basically in the sweet spot of the city. The hotel sits on Wuding West Road, which puts you within walking distance of some seriously good local eats and that buzzing Jing’an area energy. I mean, couples are rating the location 9.0 out of 10, and that’s not just random numbers — when you can easily hop on the metro, grab authentic xiaolongbao around the corner, and still be close to the business districts, you know you’ve picked well. The temple itself is this interesting mix of ancient and ultra-modern Shanghai, which pretty much sums up the whole neighborhood.

The Room Experience

The room setup is what I’d call “smart compact” — they’ve clearly thought about how business travelers actually use space. Everything you need is there without feeling cramped, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable). The bathrooms are clean and functional, with decent water pressure — honestly, after a long day exploring Shanghai’s humidity, that shower hits different. You’ll find the usual amenities, but what I appreciated was how everything actually worked properly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often hotels mess up the simple stuff.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast situation here is actually pretty solid — they do both buffet style and grab-and-go options, which is perfect depending on your morning schedule. The buffet has a decent mix of Western and Chinese options, though don’t expect anything too fancy. What I liked was the flexibility — some mornings you want to sit and plan your day over coffee, other times you just need to grab something and run to catch the metro. The restaurant area gets busy around 7:30 AM with business travelers, so if you prefer quieter mornings, aim for earlier or later.

Why Guests Love It

Look, CitiGO Hotel Shanghai Jing’an Temple isn’t trying to revolutionize hospitality — it’s just doing the important things really well. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you factor in the location, the reliable service, and the fact that you’re getting solid value in one of Shanghai’s prime areas. It’s the kind of place where you can focus on exploring the city instead of dealing with hotel hassles, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Plus, having easy access to both the traditional temple culture and Shanghai’s modern business energy means you’re never more than a few minutes from whatever version of the city you’re in the mood for.

Reviews of CitiGO Hotel Shanghai Jing’an Temple

  • Corrado from Italy – 1 April 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Nulla da segnalare.

  • Giuseppe from Italy – 11 March 2025 (9/10)

  • Capitan from Australia – 24 November 2023 (7/10)

Clean and modern hotel, nice bar area and close to the metro station

What could be improved: It was troublesome for the staff to find my reservation from booking.com – probably some information and connectivity issues between the app and the hotel

  • Marie-sophie from Belgium – 7 June 2023 (9/10)

Bed was very comfy, nice shower.
Very good breakfast in de morning, with everything you need.

What could be improved: Didn't find actual closet space

  • Vladimir from North Macedonia – 26 September 2022 (9/10)

  • Harriet from China – 29 August 2022 (7/10)

What could be improved: When we arrived they wouldn’t honour the price giving by booking.com and tried to bargain with us to force us to pay for breakfast using a calculator to communicate. I speak great Chinese – this wasn’t a language barrier; just they’re obviously trying to hustle. Annoying.

  • Craig from China – 14 August 2022 (9/10)

Great location close to 静安寺, with a subway line right next to the hotel. Comfortable bed and decent breakfast options.

What could be improved: A little bit of noise from the AC when on during the night.
