flowerzhaohuaxishi Overview

First Impressions

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first arrived at flowerzhaohuaxishi — the name alone had me curious. This three-star property sits tucked away on Maoming North Road in Shanghai‘s Huangpu district, and you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that don’t immediately scream “look at me.” The entrance is understated, almost residential in feel, which actually works in its favor since you’re staying in one of the city’s most coveted neighborhoods.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s the thing about location — everyone says theirs is great, but this place genuinely delivers. You’re basically in the heart of everything that makes Shanghai exciting, with the French Concession’s tree-lined streets just a short walk away. I mean, you can grab breakfast at a local café, spend the afternoon exploring boutiques on Huaihai Road, and still make it back for a quick refresh before dinner. The metro connections are solid too, which honestly saves you from dealing with Shanghai traffic more than necessary. Couples seem to really get this — there’s something romantic about having the city at your doorstep without feeling like you’re sleeping in Times Square.

The Room Experience

The room itself surprised me in the best way possible. Sure, it’s not sprawling, but it’s thoughtfully designed with clean lines and everything you actually need. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d wrestled with it all night, and the bathroom — well, let’s just say I’ve stayed at pricier places with worse water pressure. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed despite being in such a central area. The windows do their job of keeping the city buzz where it belongs — outside.

Neighborhood Vibes

Walking around this area, you get that perfect Shanghai mix of old and new that everyone talks about but few hotels actually deliver on. There’s a 7-Eleven practically next door (trust me, you’ll use it), but also these little local spots where you can grab proper xiaolongbao without the tourist markup. The tree coverage on these streets is actually pretty impressive for downtown Shanghai, which makes those summer walks way more bearable. I found myself just wandering around in the evenings because the neighborhood has this energy that’s busy but not overwhelming.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but it gets the fundamentals right in a way that matters. The staff seems to actually care about helping rather than just going through the motions, and the whole operation feels more personal than corporate. For the price point, you’re getting access to one of Shanghai’s best neighborhoods without paying French Concession hotel rates. Recent guests have been rating the location at 9.3, and honestly, I get it — sometimes being in the right spot trumps having a marble lobby. It’s the kind of place where you spend your time exploring the city rather than hanging around the hotel, which is exactly how Shanghai should be experienced.

Locals suggest to book apartments in Shanghai around Former French Concession for plane trees, espresso bars, and indie boutiques.

It was a really convenient area and the cleaner was very good. I actually ended up keeping the key from one of the security measures by accident and I was going to send it but they said they’ll just make another one instead so I was let off the hook.

The property was very conveniently located and had enough utilities in the apartment that I didn’t have to go elsewhere all the time. I also enjoyed the washing machine and I like the light and the historic building. All the instructions for entering the apartment were given very clearly and there is a lot of security which is amazing.

What could be improved: I couldn’t bring my dog.
