Dayin Hotel – East Nanjing Road & People’s Square & The Bund Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Dayin Hotel – East Nanjing Road & People’s Square & The Bund, you immediately get that feeling of being right where you want to be in Shanghai. This three-star property sits on Ningbo Road in Huangpu District, and honestly, the location is pretty much perfect for exploring the city’s main attractions. The lobby has a clean, straightforward vibe — nothing too fancy, but you can tell they’ve put thought into making guests comfortable without all the unnecessary frills.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in the heart of everything that makes Shanghai exciting. East Nanjing Road is literally steps away, which means you can walk to some of the best shopping and street food without dealing with the subway during rush hour. The Bund is close enough for an evening stroll along the waterfront, and People’s Square gives you that perfect mix of green space and cultural sites. I mean, couples are rating the location 9.5 out of 10, and after spending time here, I totally get why.

The Room Experience

The room setup is what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, functional, and surprisingly quiet considering you’re in such a bustling area. The beds are comfortable enough that you’ll actually get decent sleep, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of the city. What I appreciated most was how the windows let in good natural light during the day, and the air conditioning works well (trust me, you’ll need it during Shanghai summers). The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, with everything you need without feeling cramped.

Breakfast and Practical Perks

The breakfast spread actually impressed me more than I expected. They’ve got Continental options alongside Italian choices, plus a full English/Irish setup and solid vegetarian selections — so whether you’re craving congee or need your morning bacon fix, you’re covered. The restaurant area gets busy around 8 AM, but the staff keeps things moving smoothly. Oh, and there’s private parking available, which is honestly a huge deal if you’re planning to rent a car or have one — finding parking in this part of Shanghai can be a real headache otherwise.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it balances being affordable with giving you access to premium Shanghai experiences. You’re paying three-star prices but getting a location that five-star hotels charge premium rates for. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping guests navigate the city, and I noticed they’re pretty good with both English and local recommendations. It’s one of those places where you spend most of your time out exploring, but when you come back, everything just works the way it should — no drama, no surprises, just a solid base for your Shanghai adventure.

Reviews of Dayin Hotel – East Nanjing Road & People’s Square & The Bund

  • Janis from Latvia – 19 May 2025 (8/10)

Location – super central, that the main thing about this hotel. Eerything is sutably good for this location/price. Rooms are pretty modern and good enough. No complaints. SHower is clean and modern.

What could be improved: A bit too loud in coridors (stone floor, not carpet).

Breakfest is super limited – you choose from 3 super limited options.

  • Alvile from United Kingdom – 4 March 2025 (8/10)

Very central location, wonderful staff members (Mike was advising us), clean room and facilities available. Perfect for young travellers.

  • Josselin from France – 16 February 2025 (9/10)

Everything was great. Comfy room, nice bathroom, gym.

What could be improved: The breakfast was terrible.

  • Toghrul from Portugal – 2 February 2025 (8/10)

The location is ideal, located in the heart of the city and very convenient, with everything either within walking distance or easily accessible by nearby metro. The receptionist was very kind. There are numerous restaurants and malls right by the hotel/hostel.

What could be improved: The entrance to the hotel/hostel is quite messy and dirty. It doesn’t resemble a typical hotel; rather, it’s a large building with rooms that have either private bathrooms or bunk beds with shared bathrooms. The breakfast options need significant improvement. They offer three types of “breakfast”—Swiss, English, and French—but there are no clear signs indicating these options. Additionally, basic kitchen supplies like salt and pepper shakers are missing. Be cautious about the city tax, as they tend to charge more than expected. Always verify the amount before making your payment.

  • Robert from United States – 16 December 2024 (8/10)

Kind of funky but I liked it. Tap beer in the lobby very cool Movies in the lounge also a treat. Rooms are tiny but clean. Great neighborhood for food !!!!

What could be improved: Staff is inexperienced. The lattes were served cool, not hot. Breakfast was bare bones but acceptable.

  • Jay from United Kingdom – 5 December 2024 (8/10)

    Good location and helpful staff

    What could be improved: Nothing
