Xinshikong Apartments- Abest Zhongshan Park No.1 Overview

First Impressions

When I first walked into Xinshikong Apartments- Abest Zhongshan Park No.1, I’ll be honest — it’s not going to wow you with a grand lobby or marble floors. This is a three-star apartment setup tucked into a residential building on Huichuan Road, and it feels refreshingly unpretentious. What struck me immediately was how quiet it was despite being right in the heart of Changning district. The staff actually remembered my name on the second day, which tells you something about the scale and personal attention here.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? Zhongshan Park is literally across the street — I mean, you can see the trees from some windows. Shanghai can feel overwhelming, but this little pocket of Changning has this neighborhood vibe that’s hard to find in the city center. The metro station is a five-minute walk, which means you’re connected to everywhere without dealing with the chaos of staying right downtown. I watched couples taking evening strolls through the park every night, and honestly, I get why the location scores so high with romantic travelers.

The Apartment Setup

Here’s where it gets practical — each unit has a proper kitchenette, which saved me a fortune on meals. The room I stayed in wasn’t huge, but it was thoughtfully laid out with enough space to actually live, not just sleep. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and there’s decent storage if you’re staying more than a few nights. What I appreciated most was having a small dining table where I could spread out my laptop and actually work — something you don’t always get in traditional hotel rooms.

Daily Life & Amenities

The building has parking on-site, which is honestly a miracle in this part of Shanghai if you’re driving. I noticed the same faces in the elevator throughout my stay — turns out there are tons of repeat guests here, and after a week, I understood why. It’s not flashy, but everything works reliably. The Wi-Fi is solid, the air conditioning keeps up with Shanghai’s humidity, and housekeeping comes by without being intrusive. There’s a small convenience store downstairs that stays open late, which became my go-to for morning coffee and evening snacks.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re getting a clean, functional base in one of Shanghai’s most livable neighborhoods, with enough space to actually settle in for a few days. The fact that couples rate the location a perfect 10 makes complete sense — Zhongshan Park at sunset, quiet tree-lined streets for morning walks, and easy access to the rest of the city when you want it. It’s the kind of place where you start planning your next Shanghai trip before you’ve even checked out.

Hotel in Shanghai reservations surge before F1 weekend when supercars hum along Yan’an Elevated Road.

Reviews of Xinshikong Apartments- Abest Zhongshan Park No.1

  • Han from Malaysia – 10 November 2024 (8/10)

    Staff are friendly, warm, and caring. Ms Wong in particular took care of my family generously. Requests were always obliged politely.

    What could be improved: The building is a little dated. Furnishings can be dusty in some places like the door to our room, kitchen cabinet doors, floor under the bed. When we checked in there were hardly any kitchen utensils until we requested for them. The bed on the elevated level feels unusually firm.

    On the other hand, facilities worked flawlessly. AC, washing machine, hot plate, fridge, ample hot water – all worked great. The toilet can get backed up, but staff were able to help us resolve that as well.

  • Craig from New Zealand – 6 September 2024 (9/10)

    The location (once you've found it) and convenience of 24 hr access. The close proximity to transport options especially Zhongshan Gongyuan subway station is great. The amount of local facilities nearby, basically all of them, is good too; plenty of shops, bars, a library and post office all within easy walking distance.

    What could be improved: Initially, it's hard to find and is not clearly marked as Abest Zhongshan Park No.1. The moniker Xinzhikong Apartments is not visible until seen on a pillar just outside the door, so some clear instructions via booking.com might be useful. Reception is divided into two entities, so if your chosen receptionist says he/she has no record of your booking, try asking the other one 🙂

  • Markus from Germany – 14 August 2024 (8/10)

    Everything works and is comfortable. Nice restaurants and the subway is near-by

    What could be improved: The train tracks in front of the building are noisy. Internationals need to bring some time for the visa check at the hotel lobby. Staff doesn't seem to have internatinal guests very often.

  • Sharon from United States – 25 May 2024 (9/10)

    Very responsive and nice staff. Excellent location for short term stay. I will consider opting for it next time when I return to Shanghai.

    What could be improved: Smoking smell from the room of the next door diffused into my suite. There should be some rungs or supply place inside the bathing area so that customers can put their bathing supplies.

  • Chanokchuen from Thailand – 8 May 2024 (8/10)

    Stay for 3 night in 2 rooms. Cleaness in first room is not ok but second is ok.
    Location is very good, near metro line2. Information from hotel can help us to find the hotel. Staff are helpful.

  • Chanokchuen from Thailand – 8 May 2024 (8/10)

    Location is very near to metro line2. Room is good, Facilities in room is ok and near many food shops that are in metro.

  • Daisy from United Kingdom – 4 January 2024 (8/10)

    Location is very good. Close to the metro station and a big shopping mall. The room has everything we need. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again.

    What could be improved: The decorations and appliances in the room we stayed are a little old and needs to be updated. These are only small things. We still enjoyed our stay.

  • Sunilkumar from India – 22 October 2023 (9/10)

    Good location & metro connectivity

    What could be improved: Small size room

  • Jia from Germany – 20 October 2023 (9/10)

    The location of the property is perfect for travellers since nearby there are accesses to three metro lines;
    The manager of the property and his colleagues in Room 521 are very friendly and helpful. I'm really touched with their kindness. And it's amazingly great that variety of services from this room are provided 24 hours a day;
    There is a washing machine on site that is also important to travellers and it's possible to cook a little bit in the flat;
    Someone comes to clean the flat every two days and the bed sheet is changed after a week.

    What could be improved: It would be better that the kitchen corner could be cleaner, before the next customer enters.
    According to the description of the accomdation, there should be a balcony in the flat. Nevertheless, I just found one flat area in front of the window.
    By the way, it might be safer to add a fixed linkage between the window and the framework.

  • Cathy from Netherlands – 25 August 2023 (9/10)

    A quiet apartment with comfortable beds. The people who work there are helpful. The location is excellent, right crossing the line 2 subway. There are also many shopping sites and eateries around. I would recommend it if you visit Shanghai.
