UrCove by Hyatt Shanghai Pudong East Overview
First Impressions
Walking into UrCove by Hyatt Shanghai Pudong East, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical business hotel. The lobby has this modern, almost residential feel that’s refreshingly different from the marble-heavy grandeur you’ll find elsewhere in Shanghai. It’s a four-star property that honestly feels more boutique than chain — which makes sense given Hyatt’s UrCove concept is all about creating these neighborhood-focused experiences. The design philosophy emphasizes comfort and accessibility, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking something beyond conventional hospitality.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about Chuansha — it’s not exactly central Shanghai, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re in Pudong East, which means you’re closer to Disney (about 15 minutes by car) and the airport than you are to the Bund. The area feels more like authentic Shanghai residential life, with local markets and smaller restaurants that tourists rarely discover. There’s parking available for free, which is honestly a godsend if you’re planning to explore beyond the metro lines. The neighborhood offers genuine cultural experiences and easy access to both major attractions and hidden local gems.
The Room Experience
My room had this clean, minimalist design that actually worked — not the sterile kind of minimal, but warm and thoughtful. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that didn’t disappoint. What I appreciated most was the workspace setup; the desk actually had proper lighting and enough outlets, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels get this wrong. Each detail reflects careful consideration for guest comfort and productivity during their stay.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast spread is a solid mix of continental and buffet options — nothing groundbreaking, but they do a decent job with both Western and Chinese selections. The coffee is actually good, not the watery hotel stuff you sometimes endure. I mean, you’re not going to write home about the scrambled eggs, but the congee was surprisingly well-done, and they had fresh fruit that didn’t taste like it had been sitting out for hours. The restaurant space itself is bright and comfortable, with big windows that make morning feel less rushed. Dining here sets a positive tone for your day.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both polished and unpretentious. Couples seem to particularly enjoy the quieter vibe — it’s romantic without being overly formal, and the neighborhood location means you can actually take evening walks without fighting tourist crowds. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, not just checking boxes. You know what? Sometimes the best hotel experiences happen when you’re not trying so hard to be impressed, and this place gets that balance right. This property delivers genuine hospitality that resonates with discerning travelers.
Hotel in Shanghai reservations surge before F1 weekend when supercars hum along Yan’an Elevated Road.

Huge room. Allowed to check in early with no charge. Good breakfast
What could be improved: Terrible pool, looking ugly and old, you only can swim if you have a cap. Spa pools were closed.
Stuff can’t speak English at all, no smiles.Ariel from Israel – 8 July 2024 (9/10)
room, price, accessible from the airport
What could be improved: Wifi. breakfast: I came few minutes before 10:00 and there was nothing to eat.Irene from Australia – 4 July 2024 (7/10)
The room had a washing machine and dryer which was handy. Complimentary soft drinks and water refilled each day and the room was cleaned every day.
What could be improved: Location was rather isolated, no nearby shops.Anna from Germany – 28 June 2024 (9/10)
Very comfortable and nice rooms, breakfast is good!
What could be improved: 1.st room that we had had a cigarette on the bathroomfloor from sb else.
BUT the staff was super nice about it, we switched rooms at once and then everything was absolutely fine!!!
You have to realize that you are quite far away from everything if you plan to go into the e.g. Bund area. As a close to the airport hotel it is really good located though!!!Jos from Netherlands – 24 June 2024 (8/10)
The staff, and especially Tony and Hans are real hosts. They will do what it takes to make the visit great. Food is good and my room was great. During my visit some rebuilding was done but in no way it was a disturbance.
What could be improved: English is an issue, so make sure the translation app is up to date when Chinese is not your language.Abbey from New Zealand – 9 June 2024 (6/10)
The size of the suites are great. Huge! Amazing big bathrooms
What could be improved: Poor service at check in. She didn’t even say hello to us. Then it appeared she spoke not one word of English. It was all pretty painful as it turned out, no one did. At this five star hotel.
There was also a wedding on so we could use the restaurant. Only we couldn’t go anywhere as in China no one will take our visa or MasterCard around the hotel only wee chat which we don’t have. So we had no means to eat anything the entire 18 Hours we were there.
We then had to exchange euros to a taxi driver as it’s all we had as the hotel won’t arrange a transfer that we can charge to the room.
For a five star hotel – it was just strange we couldn’t get food or drink when we wanted, we couldn’t speak in English to anyone at all, and they couldn’t arrange a taxi that gets charged to our room accounts. We eventually spoke to a manager who had a little English a was apologetic about the lack of services.Michelle from Austria – 9 April 2024 (9/10)
Staff was very kind
