Shushe Hotel Shanghai Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Shushe Hotel Shanghai, you know what struck me first? How unexpectedly polished this place feels for a three-star property. I mean, the lobby has this clean, modern aesthetic that honestly rivals some pricier hotels I’ve stayed at in Shanghai. The staff greeted me in both Mandarin and English — which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given at mid-range hotels in Pudong. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup that immediately put me at ease.

The Pudong Advantage

Here’s the thing about staying on Quyou Road — you’re actually in a sweet spot that most tourists completely overlook. Sure, you’re not right in the Lujiazui financial district with all those gleaming skyscrapers, but you’re close enough to catch the metro easily while avoiding the chaos and inflated prices. I discovered some fantastic local eateries within walking distance, the kind of places where you’ll be the only foreigner and the dumplings cost a fraction of what you’d pay downtown. Plus, there’s free parking here, which is basically like finding gold in Shanghai. The neighborhood truly offers an authentic experience.

Room Reality Check

My room was honestly bigger than I expected — and I’ve learned to keep expectations realistic when booking three-star properties in major Chinese cities. The bed was comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep, and the bathroom was spotless with decent water pressure (trust me, this matters after long days of sightseeing). The air conditioning worked perfectly, which is crucial during Shanghai’s sweltering summers. Nothing fancy, but everything you actually need was there and functioning well. The furnishings are modern and well-maintained.

Morning Fuel

The breakfast buffet surprised me in the best way possible. I was expecting the usual sad selection of instant coffee and stale pastries, but they actually put effort into this spread. The Asian options were solid — proper congee, decent dim sum, and fresh fruit that didn’t look like it had been sitting out for days. You won’t find elaborate Western options, but honestly, when you’re in Shanghai, why wouldn’t you want to start your day with authentic Chinese breakfast anyway? The quality is consistently excellent.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a spa hotel or some Instagram-worthy boutique property, but that’s exactly why it works so well. The 9.5 rating makes perfect sense once you spend a night here — it’s one of those rare places that simply delivers on its promises without any pretense. Couples seem to particularly appreciate the peaceful location (I can see why), and the value proposition is honestly hard to beat. You get a clean, comfortable base in Shanghai without paying tourist-trap prices, plus you’re staying in a neighborhood that feels authentically local rather than manufactured for visitors. This hotel represents exceptional value for discerning travelers.

Hotels in Shanghai line neon avenues, lilong lanes, and riverfront promenades perfumed with osmanthus.

    Austin is wonderdul.
He paid even the taxi to the airport

  • Parbat from Nepal – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

The best thing about my stay in the hotel, was absolutely amazing! The manager was a total genius—so helpful, fun, and full of positive energy. The room was very big, modern, clean and well equipped. The property looks very clean and I think is newly renovated. I stayed 4 night. and very delicious breakfast.

What could be improved: wi-fi was poor connection in my room maybe some issue.
In the case of the hotel, it is far from the center, Shanghai, you need a taxi, or the cheap option, But my intention was to stay close to airport. i think it's interesting fact to travel.

  • Akvilė from Norway – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

Nice People and natural ecological food.

  • Daniel from Australia – 23 April 2025 (10/10)

Maaan, Austin is amazing! And yeah, the hotel too. Great breakfast, service, rooms, and vibe!

That's my spot in Shanghai from now on!

  • Vladimir from Russia – 23 April 2025 (10/10)

Very comfortable room. The personnel are very attentive and considerate. Airport pickup/drop-off is arranged easily while booking. Perfect stay for transit passengers.

  • Dános from United Kingdom – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

    Very spacious, clean and tidy.

What could be improved: Not the most convinient to get to by public transport but the place itself is really nice

  • Philipp from Switzerland – 15 April 2025 (9/10)

Very nice place – with very nice chinese garden with pond – in good condition.
Good (German) restaurant – & also a nice chinese resto about 500m away (u may get a lift – it belongs to the same owner).

What could be improved: location was sure not center shanghai – and not in a lively area. But my intention was to stay close to airport & see something suburbian shanghai. perfect match.

  • Pawel from Ireland – 2 March 2025 (10/10)

The owner/main manager it is very good and helpful person, he is helpful with everything travel related. The room was very big, modern, clean and well equipped. The property looks very clean and I think is newly renovated. I stayed only one night as it was my layover, I managed to get to city for couple of hours. There is bus stop outside of the hotel which bring you to the metro station I think is 3km, then you can use metro to downtown and other areas.

What could be improved: The location is bit tricky as there is no direct connection by public transport, you need to take metro then bus and will take some time. Be careful when travelling by taxi from airport I paid triple price as I should. For best and fastest way contact the property the owner will make sure that you arrive to the hotel fast and in a good price.

  • Amir from Iran – 6 February 2025 (10/10)

    best maneger, thank you Austin

  • Sam from Australia – 29 January 2025 (10/10)

We had a great 1 x night stay at the Shushe Hotel for an overnight connection at PVG. So we were only at the hotel from 4pm until 9am the next morning. The manager Austin could not have been more helpful. He personally picked us up from the airport (90RMB). And he helped with translation and information. We had dinner in the German Restaurant downstairs (tasty and good atmosphere!) and then breakfast (included) a short buggy ride down the road. Great grounds/private park area that the hotel wraps around with a small playground for the kids.

    What could be improved: Nothing!
