Shanghai Yi Du B&B – 150m walk from Exit 5 of Jiashan Road Metro Station Overview
First Impressions
When I first walked into Shanghai Yi Du B&B – 150m walk from Exit 5 of Jiashan Road Metro Station, I’ll be honest — the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know about why this place works so well. It’s tucked away on the 14th floor of a residential building in Shanghai‘s Xuhui District, and while that might sound a bit unconventional, it actually gives you this authentic local living experience that most hotels can’t match. The owners have created something that feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed apartment than checking into a typical three-star property.
Location & Getting Around
You know what really sold me on this place? That 150-meter walk to Jiashan Road Metro Station isn’t just marketing speak — I timed it, and it’s genuinely about two minutes from your door to the platform. The Xuhui District location puts you right in the heart of where actual Shanghainese people live and work, which means you’re surrounded by authentic local restaurants and shops instead of tourist traps. I found myself grabbing breakfast from the little dumpling place downstairs and feeling like I’d discovered some secret corner of the city that guidebooks don’t mention.
The Space
The room itself surprised me — it’s much more spacious than you’d expect from the building’s exterior, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in tons of natural light. Everything feels thoughtfully designed rather than just thrown together, from the comfortable bedding to the small seating area where I actually enjoyed spending time planning my daily adventures. The Wi-Fi is solid (always important when you’re trying to navigate a new city), and there’s enough storage space that I could properly unpack for my week-long stay.
Neighborhood Life
What I really loved about staying here was how it dropped me into genuine Shanghai neighborhood life. Zhaojiabang Road has this perfect mix of local convenience stores, family-run eateries, and small businesses that give you a real sense of how the city actually functions beyond the tourist areas. In the evenings, I’d walk around and see families heading home from work, kids playing in small parks — it felt like experiencing Shanghai from the inside rather than just passing through as a visitor.
Why Guests Love It
The high ratings make complete sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s that rare combination of practical location and genuine local character that’s hard to find in Shanghai’s hotel scene. Couples especially seem to appreciate the intimate, residential feel and the fact that you can easily access both the metro system and authentic neighborhood experiences. I mean, when you can step out your door and be on a train to anywhere in Shanghai within five minutes, while also being surrounded by real local life, that’s pretty much the sweet spot for urban travel. It’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to actually experience a city rather than just visit it.
Hotels near me in Shanghai deliver quick rides to M50 galleries, Xintiandi brunches, and Yu Garden lantern mazes.

The apartment is really easy to find, right outside the subway station—the location is super convenient! The host was incredibly attentive, providing us with a detailed check-in guide and answering all our questions. The room was incredibly clean and tidy. Although the bathroom, kitchen, and dining area were a bit small, they were fully equipped with all the necessary amenities. We even ordered takeout and had it delivered to our room—so convenient! It offered exceptional value for money, much more affordable than downtown accommodations, and we were extremely satisfied! (≧▽≦)
