Shanghai Pudong Xiangguo Hotel Overview
First Impressions
The Shanghai Pudong Xiangguo Hotel sits in Huinan Town, which honestly feels like discovering a quieter side of Shanghai that most tourists never see. When I first pulled up, I was struck by how this three-star property manages to feel both modern and unpretentious — there’s no marble lobby trying too hard to impress, just clean lines and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. The staff greeted me in that efficient-but-warm way that Chinese hospitality does so well, and I immediately got the sense this place caters to people who want comfort without the fuss.
Location & Getting Around
Huinan Town isn’t exactly downtown Shanghai, but you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. You’re about 45 minutes from the Bund by metro (the nearest station is a short taxi ride away), which gives you easy access to the city center while letting you experience a more residential side of Pudong. The area around the hotel has that lived-in feel — local restaurant, small shops, and tree-lined streets where you’ll see families out for evening walks. I mean, if you’re looking to be in the thick of Nanjing Road action, this isn’t your spot, but for couples wanting a peaceful base — and apparently they love it here — it’s pretty ideal.
The Room Experience
My room was larger than I expected for a three-star property, with that clean, minimalist aesthetic that Chinese hotels do really well. The bed was properly firm (none of that sinking-into-quicksand feeling), and the bathroom had a decent shower with good water pressure — honestly, sometimes it’s the simple things that matter most after a long day of sightseeing. The air conditioning worked efficiently, which you’ll definitely appreciate during Shanghai’s humid summers, and the Wi-Fi was reliable throughout my stay.
Breakfast & Practical Perks
The buffet breakfast surprised me in the best way — it’s not trying to be international and failing, but rather focuses on doing Chinese breakfast items really well alongside some Western basics. You’ll find congee, steamed buns, pickled vegetables, plus scrambled eggs and toast for those who need familiar morning fuel. What really sold me, though, was the free parking — if you’re planning to rent a car and explore the broader Yangtze River Delta region, this is a genuine money-saver that adds up quickly in a city like Shanghai.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something refreshingly honest about this place that I think resonates with travelers who’ve grown tired of cookie-cutter hotel experiences. The Shanghai Pudong Xiangguo Hotel delivers exactly what it promises — clean, comfortable accommodations with thoughtful touches like that free parking and solid breakfast, all in a neighborhood that feels authentically Chinese rather than touristy. For couples especially, it offers that sweet spot of being close enough to explore the city but far enough away to actually relax together in the evenings. It’s not going to wow you with flashy amenities, but it’ll take care of you properly, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
To book a hotel in Shanghai during Autumn Fair, visitors juggle jade market strolls with Huangpu river cruises.

Reviews of Shanghai Pudong Xiangguo Hotel
Emily from Australia – 10 January 2025 (4/10)
The hotel itself was okay, decent for an overnight layover. The staff was able to converse via translation but no one spoke English. There are restaurants in walkable distance (also KFC and Family Mart).
What could be improved: I would advise against this hotel if you can’t speak Mandarin. I had an overnight layover and booked this hotel because of the free shuttle from and to the airport. I was in contact with the owner of the hotel and followed all his instructions on where to go to be picked up. When I landed, I sent him a message as requested but I waited a while and there was still no contact from him. I called him via WhatsApp and he spoke no English (we have been messaging via WhatsApp translation). He ended up sending a Didi to come fetch me from the hotel. But it was a distressing time as I didn’t speak Mandarin and if I didn’t call him, I don’t think he would have sent anyone to come.
The hotel is in no way soundproof, I could hear sounds from other rooms, and the bathroom smelled of a little smoke.Irina from Russia – 9 November 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: Не было чая и кофе, пыль в номере, видимо отсутствие влажной уборки.Angelina from Latvia – 19 October 2024 (1/10)

Abosede from Malawi – 25 August 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: Прокуренные номера. Luís from Brazil – 28 July 2024 (7/10)
I arrived late in the evening and still staff received me very well. My stay was registered promptly and I was given my bedroom card right away. The bedroom was comfortable and clean. Great for a quick stay.
What could be improved: The location indeed is very far away from downtown. I think that unless you want to spend a lot of money on taxi or a huge time on the subway to get from the hotel to downtown, this would not be a good option of hotel. I chose to spend money on taxi since I would stay only for a evening.Artur from Russia – 11 June 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: Все, начиная от фасада здания, до самого номера выглядит немного проще, чем на фото, но это не портит впечатление от проживания.
