Shanghai Hills&XING 1885 Family Homestay Near Line2 & Line12 West Nanjing Road Overview

First Impressions

Honestly, when I first heard the name Shanghai Hills&XING 1885 Family Homestay Near Line2 & Line12 West Nanjing Road, I thought it was a bit of a mouthful — but you know what? It actually tells you everything you need to know. This three-star homestay sits right in the heart of Jing’an district, and the moment you step inside, you realize this isn’t your typical hotel experience. It’s more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed apartment, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to get a real feel for Shanghai.

Location & Getting Around

The location is seriously impressive — I mean, being near both Line 2 and Line 12 subway lines is like hitting the jackpot in Shanghai’s metro system. West Nanjing Road is just a short walk away, and you’ll find yourself in the middle of everything that matters. The Jing’an district has this perfect mix of old Shanghai charm and modern convenience that couples seem to absolutely love (no wonder it gets such high marks for romantic getaways). You can actually walk to some fantastic local eateries and shopping areas without dealing with the tourist crowds that swarm other parts of the city.

The Space Itself

What struck me most about this place is how it manages to feel both cozy and spacious at the same time. The room setup is thoughtfully designed — you’re not cramped into a tiny hotel box, but you’re also not rattling around in some oversized space. The hosts have clearly put effort into making it feel like a proper home away from home, with local touches that give you a sense of place. The building itself has character too — there’s something about staying in a residential area that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary local.

Practical Perks

Here’s what I really appreciated: the hosts actually know their neighborhood and can point you toward the good stuff. They’re not just handing you a generic tourist map — they’ll tell you which restaurant around the corner serves the best xiaolongbao, or where to grab coffee that doesn’t cost a fortune. The whole setup feels more personal than a big hotel chain, and when you’re navigating a city like Shanghai, having that local insight makes a huge difference. Plus, the metro connections mean you can get pretty much anywhere in the city without the hassle of figuring out taxi apps or dealing with traffic.

Why Guests Love It

I think what really sets this homestay apart is that balance between independence and support. You get your own space to decompress after long days of exploring, but you also have hosts who genuinely care about your experience in their city. The high ratings from recent guests make sense — this isn’t about fancy amenities or marble lobbies, it’s about having a comfortable base in one of Shanghai’s most livable neighborhoods. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying somewhere that feels more intimate and personal than a standard hotel room.

Reviews of Shanghai Hills&XING 1885 Family Homestay Near Line2 & Line12 West Nanjing Road

  • Shawn from Singapore – 24 April 2025 (5/10)

The property is conveniently located in an area between posh hotels (St Regis) and proper shopping districts with food readily available stone throw from the apartment. So u can easily order food and other items delivered to ur doorstep or explore and walk around the area. With limited details on the area, foreigners relied on clues like these to think this was a good area to book. BUT NO.

What could be improved: There is NO LIFT. U need to lug ur luggage 3 floors up or down on narrow staircase with junks piled in the corridor that keeps getting knocked over. Ur neighbours are hoarders. The lady living right next to u loves to keep her door open and plays the radio. The entire stairwell area feels like a slump. Dusty, dirty and smells. When u enter the apartment thankfully it looks different from the outside. But the floors were dirty. We asked for a mop they gave us a dirty one and we ordered one online. Left it for them. We had to mop the floor 3-4 times before it was clean. The owner claimed that it was because of the air and the windows were opened and that in their country people wore shoes ard. That’s unexceptable. Toilet constantly smells. The shower got jammed the 3rd night and I told the owner but he said to show him. We gave up and my helper cleared the clog. For this price, pls go stay hotel. One night the entire shower pole came off the wall and nearly hit my head when I reached to remove the shower head from its holder. Bloody dangerous. The mezzanine “bed” was a thin mattress with thin pillows. Our backs and neck hurt. Kettle provided had rust in it. We had to CLEAN the entire house the first day we arrived. The kitchen was filthy and smells. We bought our own thrash bags and tissue boxes coz we couldn’t find any refills in the whole house. My chauffeur said we got duped. This slum isn’t worth the price and locals would never book such a place. This place is only for foreigners who didn’t know better. Didn’t think to take photos coz I never wanna remember ever staying here.

  • Francisco from Argentina – 1 January 2025 (9/10)

La excelente predisposición del anfitrión para solucionar cualquier inquietud que surgía.

    What could be improved: Nada.

  • Daniel from United Kingdom – 24 December 2024 (9/10)

The experience was quite good, the room location was excellent, and the customer service response was quite fast. As soon as I asked for a towel change, it was immediately delivered

What could be improved: old,I hope we can make the check-in instructions more detailed,or even better, have a video, because the alleys in Shanghai are really too complicated for us,especially the names.

  • Viktoriya from Kazakhstan – 11 August 2024 (9/10)

The location is awesome, very close to metro station, malls and cafe. The kitchen has everything you need in case you want to cook. The air conditioners worked very well which was necessary in hot weather. The service and manager was really helpful. There is everything you need in apartment.

What could be improved: The apartment is located in a city centre but the building is old. For some travelers that might be not comfortable as the entrance hall of the building looks at first sight a little bit scary, however you can experience how locals are living and as the manager said the building located in historical area.
