Shanghai Hills & Zinn Happy Family Bnb Near Line1&14 South Huangpi Rd Mid Huaihai Rd Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Shanghai Hills & Zinn Happy Family Bnb Near Line1&14 South Huangpi Rd Mid Huaihai Rd feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away on quiet Nanchang Road. I’ll be honest — the name’s a mouthful, but don’t let that fool you. This three-star gem sits in one of those narrow lanes that make Shanghai so charming, where you can actually hear yourself think despite being in the middle of everything. The building itself has that classic Shanghai character, and you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you at first glance.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s the thing about location — everyone says theirs is great, but this place genuinely delivers. You’re literally steps from South Huangpi Road station, which connects you to both Line 1 and Line 14, meaning you can get anywhere in the city without the usual subway gymnastics. Mid Huaihai Road is right there too, and if you’ve spent any time in Shanghai, you know that’s shopping and dining gold. I mean, couples rate this spot incredibly highly (there’s a reason for that 9.6 location score), and after staying here, I get it — you can walk to the French Concession for dinner, then catch a late movie in People’s Square without breaking a sweat.

The Room Experience

The room itself surprised me in the best way possible. It’s not trying to be some fancy hotel suite, but everything works exactly as it should. The bed’s comfortable — actually comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which honestly shocked me given how central you are. The family who runs this place clearly put thought into the details, from the lighting to the way they’ve arranged the furniture.

The Family Touch

This is where the “Happy Family” part of the name starts making sense. The hosts treat this place like their own home, which it sort of is, and that shows in ways you don’t expect. They’re around when you need them but never hovering, and they actually know the neighborhood — not just the tourist spots, but where locals go for good xiaolongbao or which convenience store stays open latest. It’s that kind of personal attention you just don’t get at bigger hotels, and frankly, it makes all the difference when you’re trying to navigate a city like Shanghai.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a place that’s going to wow you with a fancy lobby or a rooftop pool. What it does is give you a genuine base in one of Shanghai’s most walkable neighborhoods, run by people who actually care whether you have a good stay. That 9.2 rating isn’t an accident — it comes from travelers who appreciate being able to walk to dinner instead of taking three subway transfers, and who like staying somewhere that feels more like a well-run guesthouse than a corporate hotel. If you’re the type who values location and authentic hospitality over marble bathrooms and branded amenities, this little spot on Nanchang Road might just become your Shanghai go-to.

The location is right in the city center, with easy access to transportation—just a 5-minute walk to the metro station. The neighborhood has such a unique local charm, which I absolutely loved. The bed was incredibly comfortable and helped me unwind after a long day—felt just like home. The customer service was outstanding, and I even joined one of their recommended bike tours, which was a fantastic experience. I’ll definitely stay here again when I come back to China for business next summer!

  • Onni from Finland – 12 October 2024 (10/10)

The location is great, 5 min walk from Fuxing park. (A hotspot for nightclubds). All the pictures were accurate, and the room was very spacious. We had a great experience.

    Also things to be noted:

    – 5 min walk from a metro station.

    – Multiple authentic chinese restaurants with in 5-10 min walking distance.

    – Didi taxi takes you anywhere in the sity for 1-5€

    – Beds were extremely comfortable and clean

  • Amy from United States – 6 October 2024 (10/10)

It was fun to be immersed in a local neighborhood! The apartment was stylish and cute. Host was communicative and very helpful!

What could be improved: Police and neighbors were suspicious of westerners walking down the alley with suitcases when we arrived, they asked us a lot of questions, and that was a bit stressful, but once we were checked in it was fine!

  • Lian from Germany – 11 September 2024 (6/10)

As a former Shanghainese, the location is in the city center and very close to Xintiandi.

What could be improved: The facilities are a bit old and need renovation. The soundproofing of the house is a bit poor.

  • Ana from Spain – 14 August 2024 (9/10)

It is well place and is very convenient for a group of four people

What could be improved: The location

  • Demmy from Netherlands – 26 July 2024 (10/10)

Veel aanwezig. Er was ook een mooie voortuintje. Bedden boven elkaar is kapot cute.

What could be improved: De buren zijn goed te horen. En het is heel lastig te vinden en de straten zijn eng in het donker.

  • Simone from Italy – 27 June 2024 (9/10)

  • Mingliu from Netherlands – 16 May 2024 (9/10)

Location, and living among the locals, walking distance to restaurants, parks, historical streets.

What could be improved: Not enough cleaning tools
