Holiday Inn Express Shanghai New Jinqiao by IHG Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Holiday Inn Express Shanghai New Jinqiao by IHG, you immediately get that reliable Holiday Inn Express vibe — clean, efficient, and refreshingly straightforward. This three-star property sits in the Pudong district on Jiaqiao Road, and honestly, it’s one of those places that just works without trying too hard. The lobby feels modern enough without being flashy, and the staff actually seem to know what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given in this part of town.
Location & Getting Around
The Jinqiao area is sort of this interesting middle ground between the financial district chaos and the quieter residential neighborhoods. You’re not right in the thick of Lujiazui’s skyscrapers, but you can still get there pretty easily. What I really appreciate is that you’re close enough to the action without dealing with the constant noise and crowds. The metro connections aren’t bad either — though you’ll want to factor in some travel time if you’re planning to hit the Bund or People’s Square regularly. The location truly offers excellent access to Shanghai‘s major attractions and business districts.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from Holiday Inn Express — compact but well-designed, with everything you actually need and nothing you don’t. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (I mean, sometimes these chain hotels can be hit or miss), and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which is crucial during Shanghai’s sticky summers. There’s decent storage space, and the bathroom, while small, felt clean and modern with good water pressure. The furnishings are practical and durable, making it an ideal choice for business travelers and leisure guests alike.
Breakfast & Dining
Now, the breakfast buffet is where this place really shines for the price point. They’ve got this nice mix of continental options, Asian dishes, and American classics that actually works well. You know what impressed me? The congee was properly made, not that watery stuff you sometimes get, and they had decent coffee alongside the usual Chinese breakfast items. It’s the kind of spread that keeps couples happy — which makes sense since I noticed a lot of pairs seemed to really enjoy their stays here. The restaurant offerings extend beyond breakfast, providing convenient dining solutions throughout your stay.
Why Guests Love It
There’s parking available right at the hotel, which is honestly a huge relief if you’re dealing with a rental car in Shanghai — finding spots in this city can be a nightmare. The whole place just feels dependable, you know? It’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities or stunning views, but it delivers exactly what it promises. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having a quiet, comfortable base where you can recharge between exploring the city. The 7.6 rating makes perfect sense — it’s solidly good without any major surprises, positive or negative. This property represents excellent value for travelers seeking reliable accommodation in a well-connected area.

The breakfast was my favourite part. Lot's of variety to choose from and convenient serving time especially after a night out partying
What could be improved: The staff that received us was very welcoming. Sent message a day prior to arrival that we would arrive between 1-2am & leave early on our departure day. The staff didn't have a room ready for us & said we had to pay for an extra night for them to let us check in early. Ended up paying so my wife could get some restNikolay from Russia – 27 April 2024 (8/10)
