Himalayas Hotel Shanghai Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Himalayas Hotel Shanghai, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical business hotel — there’s something more refined here. The five-star property sits on Meihua Road in Pudong, and honestly, the location surprised me with how well-connected it feels despite being away from the main tourist crowds. You know what struck me first? The lobby has this calm, almost serene atmosphere that makes you forget you’re in one of the world’s busiest cities.
Location & Getting Around
Pudong might sound intimidating if you’re not familiar with Shanghai, but this spot actually works brilliantly — especially for couples (they consistently rate the location over 9 out of 10, which makes total sense). You’re close enough to the financial district and major attractions without dealing with the constant chaos of central areas. The free parking is a genuine bonus if you’re planning day trips outside the city, and I mean, finding free parking in Shanghai is like striking gold. Getting to the Bund or Yu Garden is straightforward from here, but you also have that peaceful retreat to return to.
The Rooms & Sleep Quality
Here’s where Himalayas Hotel Shanghai really delivers — the beds are genuinely exceptional. I’m usually skeptical when hotels boast about comfort, but guests consistently rave about the sleep quality here, and after experiencing it myself, I get why. The rooms feel spacious by Shanghai standards, with thoughtful touches that show someone actually considered what travelers need. The bathrooms are well-appointed without being overly flashy, and there’s enough space to properly unpack and settle in for a few days.
Breakfast & Dining
The buffet breakfast covers all the bases — you’ll find both Western options and local dishes that actually taste authentic (not the watered-down versions some hotels serve). What I appreciated was the quality of ingredients; everything feels fresh rather than like it’s been sitting under heat lamps for hours. The dining area gets busy around 8 AM, so if you prefer a quieter meal, aim for earlier or later. The coffee is decent too, which honestly can’t be taken for granted at every hotel in this price range.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something telling about a hotel when guests keep coming back — and Himalayas Hotel Shanghai has more repeat visitors than most properties in the area. I think it comes down to consistency and that rare combination of luxury amenities without the pretentious atmosphere. The staff genuinely seems to remember preferences, and the overall experience feels more personal than corporate. For couples especially, this place hits the sweet spot of being sophisticated enough for special occasions while remaining comfortable for extended stays. It’s the kind of hotel where you can actually relax rather than just crash between sightseeing sessions.
The luxury concierge service in Shanghai secures couture shopping previews, chef’s table xiaolongbao tastings, and helicopter loops over Pudong.

Location was great for the conference center. Was upgraded so my room was large and on a high floor and really well laid out. Breakfast was wonderful with so many choices.
