Broadway Mansions Hotel – On the Bund Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Broadway Mansions Hotel – On the Bund feels like stepping back into Shanghai’s golden age — you know, when this was the city’s most glamorous address. The art deco facade has this unmistakable 1930s charm that somehow feels both grand and welcoming at once. I mean, this five-star property has been hosting guests since before World War II, and honestly, that history shows in all the right ways. The lobby maintains that old-world elegance without feeling stuffy or overly formal.
The Bund Location
Here’s what makes this place special — you’re literally on the Bund, which is something most hotels can only dream about. Step outside and you’re facing the Huangpu River with those iconic Pudong skyscrapers right across the water. The location gets a 9.7 rating from couples, and I totally get why. You can walk to the famous Bund promenade in about two minutes, and the whole historic waterfront becomes your backyard. Plus, being in Hongkou district means you’re close to authentic local neighborhoods that most tourists never discover.
Rooms with Character
The rooms blend that vintage Shanghai atmosphere with modern upscale amenities — think original hardwood floors paired with contemporary bathrooms. What I really appreciate is how they’ve preserved the building’s character while updating everything that actually matters for comfort. The river-view rooms are obviously the prize here, especially at sunset when the Pudong skyline lights up. Even the city-view rooms have charm though, looking out over the tree-lined streets of old Shanghai. Each space tells a story of the building’s storied past.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast spread covers all bases — continental options, Asian dishes, and a proper buffet setup that doesn’t feel overwhelming. You’ll find everything from congee and dim sum to fresh pastries and Western favorites. What’s nice is they actually do the Asian breakfast items well (not just as an afterthought), which makes sense given the location. The dining room itself has these great windows overlooking the Bund, so you’re getting that million-dollar view with your morning coffee. The restaurant team takes pride in sourcing quality ingredients for every meal.
Why Guests Love It
It’s really the combination of authentic Shanghai history and that unbeatable Bund location that wins people over. You’re staying in a piece of the city’s story while being steps away from everything that matters — the waterfront, great restaurants, and easy transport connections. The free private parking is actually a huge bonus in this part of Shanghai, where finding a spot can be a nightmare. Honestly, for couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying in this historic building while watching the modern city sparkle across the river. This property captures the essence of old-world charm with contemporary comfort.

I had a wonderful stay at Broadway Shanghai Hotel! From the moment we checked in, we were warmly welcomed by a friendly receptionist, and the housekeeping staff was incredibly helpful throughout our stay. The location is perfect—surrounded by charming, unique restaurants and cozy cafés, making everything super convenient.
I didn’t expect much at first, but was pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful complimentary services, including a lovely teatime and even a photo shooting package. The special photo shoot was such a memorable experience—the professional photographer always recommended we head to The Bund for the best shots, and it truly made the experience magical. It was a great way to take in the beauty of Shanghai while capturing unforgettable moments with my two little ones.
These little touches made our stay extra special. My children and I truly enjoyed every moment. Thank you, Broadway Shanghai Hotel, for such a wonderful experience
Remember to check out the complimentary during check in 😉🥰Yuxin from China – 31 March 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: Es un hotel antiguo reformado, y aunque ha quedado muy bien, no deja de tener ciertas carencias comparado con uno de diseño modernoDenise from United Kingdom – 9 September 2024 (7/10)
Staff were excellent. Very helpful and friendly. Good location to go out and walk along the Bund. Rooms had a sort of faded grandeur which gave it a good atmosphere.
What could be improved: I was a little disappointed with the view from my window as I had expected a full view of the Pearl Tower, however I couldn't see it at all. The small bar had limited food options for a quick snack
