The four-star property sits on Shangda Road, and while it might not be right in the Bund area, you’re actually better positioned for exploring how locals live. There’s a subway station within walking distance, and I found myself using the complimentary parking more than I expected since having a car here opens up day trips to places like Chongming Island. The area has plenty of local eateries and convenience stores, so you won’t feel isolated at all.

The Room Experience

My room was on the eighth floor, and I have to say, Atour really knows how to design a space that works. The bed was genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually delivers decent water pressure. What struck me most was the attention to small details: USB ports exactly where you need them, blackout curtains that actually block light, and a work desk that’s properly sized if you need to get things done. The air conditioning worked quietly, which matters more than you’d think in Shanghai’s humid summers.
